Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · New Year Brings Wins

The arrival of the new year has been good so far. In its first few games of 2018, a few of our basketball teams have been able to pick up their first wins of the season.

First up was the girls basketball team. On Friday, January 5th, the girls faced Clarenceville on a game that took place over break. The girls controlled the game from the opening tip to the final horn beating Clarenceville 45 – 5. In the first quarter a new, tough press forced multiple Clarenceville turnovers and the girls were able to convert them into points.  The girls continued to play well throughout the game on both ends of the court. Defensively, Eveliina Taylor was able to draw two offensive fouls on Clarenceville, and the team was aggressive on the boards all night.. The win was truly a team effort with all players on the team scoring, including three girls in double digits: Paige Everard, Kylie Wilson, and Juliana Woolford.

This past Tuesday in their first action of 2018, the JV Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Sand Creek and picked up a win beating them 49-41. The Trojans started the game on fire leading the Aggies 11 – 0 before SC was able to score its first basket. Leading the opening charge was Cole Henning who scored 9 of the first 11 points. At the half Henning had 15 and then finished with a game high of 19 points. The boys held a comfortable lead for most of the game while holding off various runs by the Aggies. Zach Kobeck dominated on both ends of the court earning his first double-double of the season. Kobeck finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds during the win.
