On Tuesday, December 12th, the Boys Whitmore Lake Varsity basketball team lost in a heart breaker between Grass Lake 54-53. The team has a chance to win the game with :02 on the clock; however, Grass Lake was able to make a defensive stop. Ryan Thoman led the team in points with 15, along with Carter Stefanovski snatching 7 rebounds for the Trojans. Dillin Kowalewski passed for 4 assists and Ryan Thoman led in the category of steals with 3 in the game.
The JV played to their fullest, but they ended the game with a 30-50 score, losing to Grass Lake The match was filled with turnovers on both sides, but Grass Lake was able to capitalize on the Trojan errors. Our Trojans came in strong shooting with Gareth Romine getting 12 points, and both Cole Hennings and Zachary Brady coming in at second with 6 points.
Thursday evening both teams hosted the Morenci Bulldogs. The first quarter proved to be a defensive battle as the teams tied 8 – 8. After the first, Morenci was able to find some rhythm as went on an offensive run. Whitmore Lake had its chances, however, too many missed layups and missed shots under the basket and they found themselves in too much of a hole to overcome late in the fourth. Three seniors led the way for the Trojans with great stat lines for the night. Bryan Pasciak scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Ryan Thoman had a great night on all sides of the court scoring 12 points and adding 5 assists on the offensive end and then grabbing 6 rebounds and 4 steals on the defensive. Izaak Angel had 4 steals and 3 blocks to help in the defensive efforts.
In JV action, Zach Brady led the team with 12 points, Cole Henning with 10, and Gareth Romine with 8. The boys fell to Morenci.
