As we head into winter, there are many sports that are beginning their seasons. One of those teams is the Varsity Boys Basketball team. The boys will face East Jackson at home for its season opener this Thursday. We talked to Coach Casey Livingston to have him give us an idea about his thoughts heading into the opener.
During the summer, the boys attended two team camps: one at Port Huron for a week, and then a two-day camp at Concordia. Last week the boys participated in a multi-school scrimmage held in South Lyon. On the overall improvement from summer until now, Coach Livingston responded, “We have identified what it looks like when we are good from when we are bad.”
The boys have put in a lot of time and hard work over the summer and in the pre-season. As they head into the home opener, they have focused on perfecting a few things on the court. According to Livingston, part of the mindset heading into East Jackson is, “We want to be really good at a couple things rather than being kind of good at a lot of things.” Three- year varsity player, Ryan Thoman, repeated what Coach Livingston had to say and added, “I’ll make sure I do my responsibility and make sure everyone else is doing their job as well.”
A lot of familiar faces will be gone this year from Whitmore Lake’s roster as a handful of experienced varsity players graduated. Thoman does not believe the loss of so many will affect this year’s team. “We lost a lot of great senior players, but I think the team we have right now is really improving, and I believe we will have a great season.” He also added that as a senior “I’m going to lead by example, work hard at practice, help them get into shape, and keep everyone in control at all times.”
Whitmore Lake plays East Jackson for their home opener on December 7th at 7:00pm, JV starts at 5:30 pm. We are looking forward to a great season!
