Trojans News · Houston Flood Relief – a way to help

A letter from Varsity News Network:
Last month, we worked with JJ Watt and his team at Reebok to launch the JJ II in Houston and Austin. Little did we know that a few weeks later, the region would face a hurricane that is still lingering over the area for the 6th straight day. Heavy rains and flooding are expected to continue at least through Friday, rivers are still rising, and emergency workers continue to rescue soaked and frightened people in southeast Texas who have lost nearly all they own.

On SundayJJ announced via Twitter his intention to raise $200K for relief efforts. It was raised in 2 hours. The goal then became $500k, which was reached within the day and topped off by the Houston Rockets’ Chris Paul. The next, $1M, raised a few hours later. $2M yesterday night, $3M after a surprise donation of $1M by the owner of the Tennessee Titans, and now the goal is now at $6M, has raised $5.5M. You can follow along on JJ’s Twitter.

Because of our connection with JJ and all our partner schools down in the area, we thought it would be a good idea to use our national distribution to help continue the amazing momentum of this venture to help Houston.

With that in mind, as well as understanding the different complexities regarding fundraising at your schools and our respect for keeping content relevant on your sites, we’re creating a draft article about helping JJ in his efforts for Houston that is in your article queue that you can choose to publish if it makes sense for your community. It should be there now.

Hope all of you are having a great Wednesday.
