Last night, the Trojan basketball team advanced to the district final for the first time in at least 4 years. A 75-29 rout of the Dearborn Star Academy Falcons sent Whitmore Lake into the district championship game.
Last night’s game featured everything except dunks. Fast paced offense was showcased with everyone on the team scoring and a shooting percentage of just under 40. There was stingy, physical defense as the Trojans held Star Academy to 2 points in the second quarter and accumulated a season high in blocks and 23 steals. As well as intense rebounding, the Trojans pulled down 34 rebounds. Blake Vershum and Ryan Kadoguchi both dropped double digit point totals at 15 and 13 points respectively, but the real highlight came when Joey Turnau and Zach McKneelen came off the bench and set the net on fire. Joey Turnau shot 2 for 2 from behind the arc and added a lay-up. Zach McKneelen made two buckets and a free throw to go along with his defensive intensity.
Come out Friday night to watch the Trojans compete for a trophy. Go Trojans!
