Middle School volleyball drops opening match

Girls-Volleyball

7th Grade

18 – 25, 20 – 25, 24 – 25

On Friday, Whitmore Lake’s seventh grade volleyball team opened its season at home against our neighbor Ann Arbor Christian School.  In the first set, the teams were pretty equal for the first full rotation with each team winning 10 points.  As the set continued, the visitors would steal an extra point here and there to claim the set 25 – 18.  In the second set, Ann Arbor Christian doubled up the Trojan’s points after a full rotation leading 16 – 8, but the Trojans clawed their way back to make it 20 – 22 before Ann Arbor Christian closed out the final three points to win the set and match 25 – 20.  Whitmore Lake again got out to a slow start in the third set and was down 9 – 15 before they started clicking and rolled off 10 straight points behind the strong serving of Adrianna Canter and Lily Blanchard for a 19 – 15 lead.  The teams then battled back and forth until the score was deadlocked at 24, next point wins.  Whitmore Lake was in the driver’s seat, possessing the serve, but sadly, the serve came up one inch short of crossing the net and Ann Arbor Christian swept the Trojans with a 25 – 24 third set win.  Despite the loss, Whitmore Lake showed some bright spots throughout the evening including Canter getting in a few spikes off some good sets by Annika Taylor and Emily Schemer having a good night from the serving line.

7th Grade

18 – 25, 20 – 25, 24 – 25

Friday, Whitmore Lake’s eighth grade volleyball began their season journey taking on Ann Arbor Christian School.  The visitors brought their A game in the first set serving up several knock out punches early and cruised to an easy 25 – 10 win.  In the second set Whitmore Lake started dancing a little more, dodging some of those jabs and had Ann Arbor Christian on the ropes before dropping the set 22 – 25.  In the third set, Ann Arbor Christian dominated again winning 25 – 13 for the trifecta on the night.  Lindsay Francis played well from the setting position while also showing off her jumping jack skills in her blocking attempts.  Peaches Cloutier had a solid night of serving and passing for the Trojans.  The girls will look to rebound from the tough loss next Wednesday at home against St. Thomas.
