The first week of the new semester at Whitmore Lake was full of athletics. Both Men’s and Women’s Basketball played two games. Wrestling hosted their first meet at home in about 33 years. Indoor Track and Field also participated in a meet at Eastern Michigan University.
The Lady Trojans picked up a few miles on the bus traveling to both Clinton and Morenci. On Tuesday night in Redskin country, Cassie Germain dropped 22 points in a 50 to 36 loss. On Thursday night, after the longest road trip of the season, they fell to the Bulldogs 56-27.
The Men’s Varsity basketball team played the Redskins and the Morenci Bulldogs at home. They failed to avenge their earlier loss to Clinton with a final score of 66-60. On Friday night, in the midst of the annual Snowcoming festivities, Whitmore Lake pulled through with a 66-60 victory to sweep Morenci in the season.
The wrestlers hosted a dual meet against Manchester. On the night that parents of wrestlers were recognized, the Trojan wrestlers could not manage a victory against the powerful wrestling program called The Flying Dutchmen.
At the Indoor Track and Field meet, Trey Cucuro, Colton Seigle, Clay Rinna and Jordan Craven all competed at Eastern Michigan University. The distance trio of Cucuro, Seigle and Rinna ran the mile with times of 4:31 (a state qualifying time), 5:10 and 5:30 respectively. Jordan Craven jumped her way to states with a high jump of 5 feet.
